An Oddly Perfect Combo

Date night on a blustery cold night in Philadelphia can present a challenge.  Like any girly-girl, I love to get dressed to the nines and  go out for a night on the town, but when the temp’s in the 20′s and the wind’s whipping through you like an ice pick you must improvise.  And that’s exactly what we did last night.

Dinner out + Movie In =  Simple.

Szechuan + French =  Interesting.

We went out to dinner at a little Szechuan restaurant on Chestnut called Han Dynasty – an unassuming little place that definitely packs the “heat” in their dishes.  The Dan Dan noodles there are fabulous and the steamed wontons smothered in their chili oil concoction are equally yum.  We followed it up with a dish they’ve aptly  named their  ”hot sauce style” stir-fried fish with cabbage and celery.  SPICY deliciousness.

Then home to the sofa with my guy, a bottle of French Beaujolais, and a movie.  Total bliss.

God, I love New York.

I especially love it that my first snowflakes of the season sprinkled down on me and my guy in the middle of Times Square.  All the glam, glitz, and lights… and tiny little snowflakes falling.  What a lovely feeling.

It was Craig’s first time in NYC so we did some “tourist-y stuff” like Times Square, Planet Hollywood, authentic New York Italian food at Tony’s, and a Broadway Musical (which I’ll get to later).  We also did our own little “pub crawl” hitting up O’Brien’s Irish Pub, The Rum House, The Glass House, Blue Fin, and a couple of other bars I can’t remember the names of.  Hmmm…. I wonder why?  Maybe it was the “fruit-and-rum-and-fun-in-a-glass” cocktails the bartender was mixing up at Rum House?

The show we caught was the Spider-man musical (Spider-Man After Dark).  Despite all the rewrites and mishaps they had during the creation of it, it really is a fabulous show.  The score composed by Bono and The Edge from U2 was fun and edgy and the choreography included some amazing numbers performed in the air above the audience — especially the fight sequence between Spidey and the Green Goblin with them swinging wildly all over the place above our heads.

With Philadelphia being so close, it was great to buzz over there for a full day of NYC therapy.  I love you, New York.

Resolutions & all that jazz

Sake bombs & Champagne New Year's Eve at Grafitti

Okay, it’s January of a brand new year, so why not join the masses and throw a resolution out there that I may or may not deliver on. As you can see by the date of my last blog entry, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve blogged. Before you judge me for allowing so much time to lapse between blogs, you should know that it’s not that I haven’t been blogging—in fact I was blogging quite a bit—I was simply blogging elsewhere. I was writing daily blogs (sometimes 2 or 3 a day) on my company’s website, so I let my personal blog site slide… Well, now I am vowing to return. So here I am.  Back with a vengeance.  Back to Reed My Lips.

When you’re contributing to your company’s website content with blogs, you find yourself having to write about what appeals to their specific “customer” and what works with their ”brand” instead of your own. Obviously, that isn’t as freeing as being able to simply write what’s on your mind, so my goal is to blog at least once a month. I’d like to blog even more than that, but I don’t want to make too lofty of a resolution. I find that if I set a goal that is manageable, I’ve got a much better chance of accomplishing it. Plus, I don’t want to feel “required” to do it. I simply want to enjoy writing for the sake of writing when I FEEL like writing.
So here’s to a brand new year and a brand new blog. Cheers.
